Entering Acu-Yoga
Last summer my friend Brigitte Morin (co-owner of Fresh Coast Yoga in Houghton) contacted me asking if I’d be interesting in collaborating on a class or series of classes where we’d combine Chinese medicine and yoga, ending classes with a mini-acupuncture treatment for attendees. I didn’t even have to think about it - absolutely, YES!
We had our first class in August 2021 and next weekend (Feb. 12) will mark our 6th month and final class in our inaugural series focusing one class per month on one of the Five Elements and the associated Climatic Factor. In the upcoming class we’ll be combining all of the elements into a fully balanced class.
This experience has been so much fun! I had forgotten how excited I get to share my love of acupuncture and for the philosophy of Chinese medicine - which I get to continue to learn about bit by bit in all of my continuing education classes. It’s been so worth confronting the anxiety I get speaking in front of people! During class I give an introduction of the Element and Climatic Influence of focus then Brigitte leads the yoga and we finish up with a long savasana accompanied by two needles in each person who would like them. Afterward, we share herbal tea and a recipe to try at home.
After we wrap up this series next weekend, we’re planning on continuing to explore the 5 Elements from another entry point. We’d love to see you there!
